Francis kocht eenvoudig aandelen in Voxbox en besloot vervolgens om spamberichten te verzenden om een hebzuchtige ontvanger te vinden en zijn aandelen met winst te verkopen.

Een dergelijke "dump and pump" -regeling wordt steeds populairder. Zelfs als je spamfilters hebt, vinden spammers altijd een manier om ze te vermijden en ervoor te zorgen dat hun spam-e-mails worden afgeleverd bij de beoogde ontvanger. Ze geven er de voorkeur aan om de hierboven genoemde strategie te gebruiken omdat het hen in staat stelt te slagen zonder links te hebben naar een website die ze gaan spammen. Het onderzoek van Jonathan Zittrain, hoogleraar aan de universiteit van Oxford en Laura Frieder, assistent-professor van de Purdue University, heeft aangetoond dat spammers gedijen omdat deze programma's werken! Als alles volgens het plan verloopt, maken ze ongeveer 5 procent rendement, terwijl degenen die erin slaagden hun aandelen te kopen bijna 7 procent van hun investeringen verloren.

Het goede nieuws is dat u een eenvoudige maar effectieve methode kunt gebruiken om spammers te verwijderen. Allereerst moet je de spam verwijderen. Het maakt niet uit hoe aardig en verleidelijk het aanbod is, verzet het en koop de aandelen niet. Omdat de meerderheid van mensen het koopt omdat ze niet begrijpen dat het spam is. En onthoud altijd dat het proberen om snel geld te verdienen trucs op je kunnen spelen.
