Can you help me get quickly optimized for basic factors of on-page SEO, with SEO tips & SEO tricks for beginners?

Yes, I can help you understand the basics of on-page SEO, with all SEO tips and beginner SEO tricks you may need to get a nice kickstart on your way to running a well-optimized website or blog. But before anything else, let’s make everything clear with some basic definitions to be known by everybody new to the subject of the Search Engine Optimization at the on-page level.

What Makes On-Page SEO by Definition?

When it comes to the very concept of on-page SEO, I believe that it's best basic definition can be something like "all ranking factors and elements of SEO, which can be found located directly on the web pages of your site or blog." Yes, it may seem like a no-brainer, but too often the lion's share of the basic approaches to on-page SEO, related SEO tips & SEO techniques are revolving mainly around getting a correct Metadata and maintaining a reasonably high keyword density (i.e., using maximum number of the main target keywords per page, without compromising with a healthy User Experience). But I'm sure that you have already heard enough about that stuff so far. That's why for those guys looking for some simple yet fully useful tips and practical approaches to on-page SEO for starters, here is a great basic checklist to get down to the matter, particularly if you're completely new to it.

Getting Started with On-Page SEO: Practical SEO Tips & SEO Tricks for Beginners

So, here are some of my best findings regarding about eight top important on-page SEO factors that are loved by the major search engines (like Google itself), and the live users too. Consider the following simple recommendations and practical suggestions when getting your website or blog well-optimized for the relevant Google's search.

  • Try to start every Title Tag of your web pages with the core target keyword, or even its long-tail expression (if possible). Remember, your Title Tag has the greatest weight from the viewpoint of on-page SEO, so the closer every given search term is to the Title Tag's beginning, the better it will perform for your overall ranking progress in Google's SERPs.
  • Embed your web page Titles with some really compelling modifiers like "2018", "guide," "best," "top," etc. Note, however, that these elements clearly displayed on your pages are far not all the same to your Title Tags, which are actually seen only in your HTML-code (or when inspecting the browser's tab of a given site's URL). Using such modifiers has a practically proven positive impact on organic rankings, particularly for the most popular long-tail search requests.
  • Eliminate all ugly URLs actually made up of random characters, simply because everybody – both the search engines themselves, and the live online users – love short and concise web page URLs, which do make sense. Have each of them made up with a single keyword, that will be closely related to the web page's core content topic, or your site's primary category – and you will already rank better over time.

  • Run a double-check for your Titles to make sure every element is actually wrapped in your H1/H2 Headers. Of course, some of the top popular Content Management Systems (otherwise, CMS) are automatically adding H1/H2 Headers to your Titles (for example, WordPress). But too often some themes may occasionally override this default mode – and it means that checking your website's or blog's HTML code to have everything in place with H1/H2 Headers and Subheaders will definitely pay off.
  • Consider investing in Responsive Web Design, as mobile-friendly websites or blogs are not only featured in the relevant SERPs, but mobile-unfriendly pages are now actually penalized (otherwise, can have their organic rankings demoted) by Google search engine itself. Doing so, this current trend is expected by the industry experts to crack down even more over time. Among the other options that can turn your site into mobile-friendly one (basic techniques like Dynamic Serving or Separate URLs), particularly Responsive Web Design was reconfirmed by the major search engines as the most preferable mode of mobile-friendly optimization, at least for the time being.
  • According to the recent industry-related study, adding about 2-3 Internal Links to every web page (i.e., those found in the website's footer, navigation panel, or embedded "contextually") will have a measurable impact on every website's or blog's overall online performance, and therefore provide a much better ranking potential in Google's SERPs. Note, however, not to overdo with having an excessive number of Internal Links – after all, your own website or blog isn't meant to become something like Wikipedia.

  • Feel free to dazzle your plain-text body page writings with something definitely more engaging, such as bright images, video overviews/presentations or tutorials, clearly showcasing diagrams, eye-catching infographics and anything else that can possibly improve your interaction with every target user. Remember, user interaction is now seen by Google search engine as a strong separate ranking factor, because it has a clear impact on the core online metrics – increasing the average dwelling period (otherwise, the average time per user's page visit), in line with measurably decreasing the user's bounce rate. Moreover, multimedia content not only helps to boost positive ranking impact based on user-interaction signals – but can also elevate the perceived added value of your content. Put simply, it means that every user visiting your web pages will be more likely to share it, link to you, or subscribe to your site/blog. That's it!

Hi David, great article indeed! I was wondering, does the length of the content on a webpage impact its search engine ranking?
David Johnson
@Sophie Johnson, thank you for your kind words! Yes, the length of the content can influence search engine rankings. While there is no strict rule regarding the ideal length, longer-form content tends to perform better in search results. However, it's essential to focus on quality rather than solely on quantity. Ensure your content provides value, engages readers, and answers their queries effectively. Remember, it's about delivering the best user experience.
Emma Carter
Thank you for the informative article, David. I have a question regarding the URL structure. Is it crucial to have keywords in the URL?
David Johnson
@Emma Carter, you're welcome! Having keywords in the URL can be beneficial, but it's not the sole determining factor for search engine rankings. If possible, it's good practice to include relevant keywords in the URL structure to provide clarity to search engines and users. However, prioritize creating descriptive, readable URLs that accurately represent the content of the page. Don't force keywords if it compromises the usability and readability of the URL.
Riley Wilson
Hi David, great tips! I was wondering if the load time of a webpage affects its ranking on Google?
David Johnson
@Riley Wilson, thank you! Yes, the load time of a webpage can impact its ranking on Google. Page speed is crucial for both user experience and search engine optimization. Slow-loading pages often lead to higher bounce rates and lower user engagement. To improve load times, optimize images, leverage browser caching, reduce server response time, and use a content delivery network (CDN) if necessary. Google values fast-loading websites for a better user experience.
Liam Harris
Hi David, your article was spot-on! I have a question about the importance of header tags for on-page SEO.

Properly utilizing header tags (H1 to H6) can also improve the readability and user experience of your webpage. It's important to use relevant keywords in your headings to signal the content's relevance to search engines. However, the primary focus should be guiding users through the content with clear and logical headings.

Don't overdo it or include spammy links, as it may have a negative impact on your webpage's credibility.

Oliver Reed
Hi David, wonderful insights! Regarding the topic of URLs, is it better to use hyphens or underscores for SEO?
David Johnson
@Oliver Reed, thank you! When it comes to URLs, it's generally recommended to use hyphens (-) instead of underscores (_) for SEO purposes. Hyphens are seen as word separators by search engines, whereas underscores can sometimes be interpreted as a single word. Using hyphens helps with readability and ensures search engines parse the words correctly. It's a best practice to follow for better SEO.

Google prioritizes secure websites, and having an SSL certificate ensures that data exchanged between your site and users remains encrypted and secure. Websites with SSL certificates are more likely to rank higher in search results. Additionally, SSL certificates display the padlock icon in browsers, instilling confidence in visitors. It's definitely recommended for better SEO performance.

@Oliver Johnson Thank you! Duplicate content can have detrimental effects on SEO. It's important to ensure that each page on your website offers unique and valuable content. Avoid content scraping, duplicating descriptions or entire pages, as search engines might treat them as duplicate or thin content. Implementing canonical tags helps specify the preferred version of a page if you have similar content on multiple URLs. Regularly monitor your website for duplicate content issues and take appropriate measures to maintain the integrity of your content and SEO performance.
