Can you tell me what makes good niche backlinks that really work in SEO?

Before showing you which properties make niche backlinks that really work in SEO (Search Engine Optimization), let’s understand what types of links should be used for that purpose. Most commonly, when it comes to SEO, we can reasonably use the following two types of backlinks - either NoFollow links or DoFollow ones.

1. Backlinks with a DoFollow attribute stand for the ones that have a direct and tangible value in SEO. It means that DoFollow backlinks can give you a boost on Google’s main related metrics also known as PageRank, trust and source authority. Apparently, such backlinks are interactive. Therefore they can be used as a navigation path for all - both live users, and the search crawling bots for indexing purposes. On the other hand, however, these backlinks serve to distribute that mysterious “link juice” between the two sides of the deal - link source and recipient.

2. Backlinks with a NoFollow attribute are quite the opposite. While these backlinks still serve (at least in part) as a helping hand to increase your referral traffic with an improved rate of conversion, they aren’t allowed for live user navigation - just for crawling purposes, as well as can partially lead to more positive yieldings for SEO in the longer run.

What makes niche backlinks of high quality?

Before anything else, quality niche backlinks are by definition those links that redirect (otherwise, link) the site or blog visitors to a third-party source by way of the use of keywords. And there are several factors considered by the major search engines (like Google itself, Yahoo, Bing, and so on) to “understand” each niche backlinks validity and caliber in SEO. Here is what makes a high-quality backlink that serves your SEO purposes best way possible - basic link patterns, link authority, and relevancy, as well as the age of the linked domain.

  • Basic Link Patterns - stand for the organic way of natural link building. Given that even Black_hat techniques have been normalized and well-considered through the recent years, Google is now emphasizing their quality, rather than just quantitative patterns. Put simply, having a lot of low-quality links from not fully related or even completely irrelevant sources has nothing to do with SEO. Moreover, without paying a very precise attention to basic natural link building patterns are not only hardly able to deliver any measurable boost in SEO but might as well earn your website or blog a severe ranking penalty, capable of pulling you down the list of the SERPs.
  • Link Authority - means every item found in your link profile should be as relevant and seasoned as possible. Only that way you can ensure that such niche backlinks serve you well, particularly in terms of building a solid layer of trust and reliability for your page content. Thus, authority links of high quality can assure you a long-term progress in the eyes of the live searchers, and Google as well.
  • Domain Age - despite this property is often categorized within link authority and relevancy, the age of linked domain is precisely what defines the average niche backlinks from the ones of a definitely high quality and power in SEO. While links from a few-years-old domains can still perform well, the ones from more aged domains are often observed by Google as the ones offering a more valuable and use-proven content that is worth being shown to a broader audience of searchers, hence moving your website or blog closer to the top of the list of the SERPs.

When building niche backlinks, the focus is primarily on obtaining inbound links from authoritative and relevant sources. However, it's always good practice to link to reputable and relevant websites when it adds value to your content. Outbound links can enhance the credibility and trustworthiness of your content, indirectly benefiting your overall SEO efforts.

Igor, your article provided valuable insights into niche backlinks! I'm curious to know how link velocity can affect the performance of niche backlinks?
Igor Gamanenko
Thank you, Edward! Link velocity, which refers to the rate at which backlinks are acquired, can impact the performance of niche backlinks. While there is no specific ideal link velocity, it's important to maintain a consistent and natural growth pattern. Rapidly acquiring a large number of backlinks within a short period can raise red flags with search engines, potentially leading to penalties or a loss in rankings. Similarly, sudden drops in link velocity can also have a negative impact. Aim for steady, organic growth and focus on acquiring high-quality backlinks throughout your link building efforts.
Isabella Young
Hi Igor, great article! I wanted to ask if the website's age or domain authority matters when building niche backlinks?

Generally, older websites tend to have more established authority and visibility, making them valuable sources for niche backlinks. However, it's important to note that newer websites can still build niche backlinks effectively by focusing on high-quality and relevant sources. While domain authority is an important factor, the relevance and authority of the linking website in relation to your niche are equally crucial. Aim to acquire backlinks from a mix of both authoritative, older websites and newer but highly relevant sources.

Igor Gamanenko
Thank you, Daniel! The length of content can certainly impact its ability to attract high-quality backlinks. Long-form and in-depth content often have a higher likelihood of attracting backlinks from authoritative websites. However, it's important to understand that content quality and relevance are equally significant. Simply focusing on longer content may not guarantee high-quality backlinks. Aim for a balance between length, value, and engagement. If your content provides unique insights, is well-researched, and addresses user needs effectively, it's likely to attract backlinks irrespective of its length.
Amelia White
Igor, your article provided valuable information about niche backlinks. I'm curious about the impact of nofollow backlinks on SEO. Should we focus only on dofollow backlinks for niche link building?
Igor Gamanenko
Thank you, Amelia! While dofollow backlinks have a direct impact on SEO and pass link equity, nofollow backlinks also play a role in your overall link profile. Nofollow links may not directly contribute to search engine rankings, but they can still drive relevant traffic to your website and increase visibility. Moreover, having a natural mix of dofollow and nofollow backlinks appears more natural to search engines. When building niche backlinks, it's good practice to focus on acquiring high-quality dofollow links, but don't disregard the potential benefits of relevant nofollow links. A diverse backlink profile adds credibility and reduces the risk of penalties.

It's best to avoid engaging in paid backlink schemes as it can result in penalties and harm your website's rankings and reputation. Search engines value natural, organic backlinks that are earned based on the quality and relevance of your content. Regularly monitor your backlink profile using tools like Semalt or other backlink analysis tools. Manually review the backlinks and assess their quality, relevance, and legitimacy. Focus on identifying spammy, irrelevant, or suspicious websites. 3. Reach out to the website owners of those harmful backlinks and request removal. Be polite and provide evidence of the harmful nature of the links if necessary. 4. However, keep in mind that link building is multifaceted, and you should strive for a balance. Acquiring a healthy mix of both relevant and authoritative backlinks should be your primary goal. Quantity alone, without considering relevance, may not yield desired results in terms of targeted traffic and conversions. Focus on building niche backlinks that are highly relevant but also of high quality and diversity.

Thank you, Samuel! Ensuring niche relevancy in guest posting is important for generating niche backlinks effectively. When you contribute to websites that closely align with your niche, you increase the chances of attracting the right audience, building credibility, and acquiring high-quality backlinks. When the guest posting website's niche aligns well with yours, the content you provide will be more relevant and valuable to their readers. This increases the probability of readers engaging with your content and further exploring your website, potentially leading to conversions. By focusing on niche relevancy in guest posting, you can maximize the benefits of your link building efforts and attract a targeted audience within your niche.
Alexis Turner
