Zoekmachines beschouwen links die naar uw site verwijzen als de digitale stemmen en het grotere aantal stemmen dat u heeft, hoe hoger uw site op een SERP zal staan.

In werkelijkheid zijn echter niet alle stemmen gelijk. Er zijn veel spamtechnieken die zoekmachines voor de gek houden en een hogere rang krijgen met content van nog steeds lage kwaliteit.
