Should I Use Meta Tags For SEO?

Meta tags form a significant part of search engine history. They act as ushers, informing search engines of the website’s content. They are included in search results and assist users who are looking for the information related to their query. They are the snippets of words which describe your page’s content but do not appear on it. Meta tags are present in the page’s code only. By their definition and role they play, meta tags qualify as powerful SEO tools.

A promotional SEO campaign is necessary if you want to improve your website visibility, increase traffic and boost brand revenue. While the use of offsite practices such as adding backlinks and increasing social media presence can enhance your site’s ranking, on-page optimization remains essential. On-page SEO tags increase traffic and boost user engagement.

Currently, the number of websites that still use meta tags has significantly decreased as some online merchants tend to believe that meta tags lost their effectiveness. Nonetheless, does this mean that all tags including title tags, header tags, and blog post tags have lost their SEO-importance too?

Title Tags

A good title tag gives users an idea of what to expect from a website before they click on it. It means that meta tags raise your website potential in search engines. Recently, Google changed the algorithm of semantic search that consequently affected the relative importance of the title tags usage. Google no longer requires an exact keyword to interpret your page’s subject matter.

Therefore, search engines will make a comparison between the title tags and the content on your page to confirm keyword consistency when indexing and web ranking, so title tags are still an essential part of SEO.

Header Tags

These are HTML markups that distinguish heading and sub headings within web content and run from H1 to H6. Recently, it was acceptable to use just one H1 within the content. However, today, it is possible to apply H1 tags to each section, which lessens the header tags’ significance and encourages search engines to take a simple approach to page analysis. Consequently, regarding on-site SEO, the header tags still play a major role in the rankings’ growth.

Blog Post Tags

These make part of your site’s taxonomy is used by blogging platforms to classify and organize information better. Blog post tags provide visitors with posts grouped into specific topics as opposed to categories. They are of great importance to your site’s visitors and search engines as they improve usability and enable search engines to interpret your page’s content.

Although blog post tags might not improve search rankings directly, they can indirectly improve SEO by letting search engines see what your site is all about.
